I took a couple days off from the best of blog challenge since I didn’t have much to say about the topics for days 3 & 4.
Best night out:
2009 has almost brought me back to the “college years” I never really had. While my previous post could probably describe the best single night out but since I already used that in a post I’ll have to use something else.

Last February I started up my band with the hopes to play some of my songs and make a little money doing something I love. I made some great contacts and friends along the way and the high point was October 2nd.
Ted, from Texas 2 Minnesota (who brings up amazing bands from Texas), finally got Wade Bowen (one of my favorite Texas artists) up here to Minnesota and guess who got to open for him? That’s right, we did!
We got out to Cowboyz in Rockford and did our soundcheck and then I got invited on to Wade Bowen’s bus and got to meet him and his band over a beer. We went on at about 9pm and played an hour set and got great feedback from the crowd, a group of people bought us a round of beers and we even had a number of people up and dancing.
I had a lot of fun doing our set and I felt even better after hearing how much my band enjoyed playing the show. After loading out Wade Bowen and his band took the stage and put on a great show. I was the only one from my band who was able to stick around for the whole show but lucky enough for me a cute gal spotted me sitting alone and kept me company for the rest of the show. It was one of the few times you’ll see me out on the dance floor (thought oddly enough I was out on that same dance floor a few weeks later at my friend Shane Wyatt’s birthday bash show).
After the show the bouncer kicked everyone but the bands/promoters out of the bar (which pissed off the band because they had a few groupies lined up). Instead of sulk about it they went back to their tour bus and invited me with them. Ted had prepared some pulled pork and chicken wings so we enjoyed that over some more beer (I had water since I needed to drive home).
To cap off the night of fun one of the drunk barmaids came on the bus and gave us all free “Cowboyz Bar & Grill” shirts. At about 3am I hopped in my car and drove home from the best night out of 2009. I think it was especially great because the night started out kind of crappy. I was tired from a long week of work and kind of wanted to just pack it in for the night. I’m sure glad I didn’t.
Thanks to Ted from Texas 2 Minnesota, Wade and his band and my awesome band for such a great night. I’m going to miss it here in Minnesota.
