I got back in town late Monday night and am now still trying to settle back in to how life works here again. I’m glad to be back that is for sure. I missed home.

Here’s a recap of what you missed not being on the road with me…

Randy Rogers & Ashley Ray: Last Tuesday I ended up in Lawrence, KS for an acoustic show by Randy Rogers & Wade Bowen. Wade Bowen’s wife had their baby that morning so he flew back and they called up Ashley Ray. I’d never heard of her before and by the end of the night I was a fan.

I added her on MySpace and she even had some kind words for me on that blog and comment wall.

Sharing the stage with Sunny Sweeney: Then Wednesday I snuck my way into the opening slot of the Sunny Sweeney show at Knuckleheads Saloon. I thought I did ok but I got a lot of really good feedback from strangers/my new fans. All the guys in Sunny’s band were cool and Sunny even noticed I shaved my head!

Special thanks to Doug (Sunny’s merch guy) for sharing those sunflower seeds with me while we watch Sunny perform.

Miguel & Irene’s Wedding: While Florida was hot and sticky and we were staying the wasteland known as NW Ft Lauderdale I ended up having a lot of fun at the wedding.

Summary: Overall I met a bunch of cool new people and had a lot of fun. Since 25 went out with a bang I am determined to make my 26th year on this earth legen … wait for it … dary. Legendary. /*gives self belated happy birthday five /*

Today I wrap up my 3 1/2 year stint at IOT to start my new job as Web Manager for David Knox Productions next Monday.

Though this happened a few days ago MySpace finally did something about their UI (user interface for you non web or software design folks).

As I mentioned Monday, The events of last Friday would get it’s own post when the time is right. I will now recount the day through fake status updates/tweets.

    7:23am-1:54pm

  • {7:23am} cut my lip shaving, ouch!
  • {8:11am} stopped at Panera for some coffee (the guy punched my coffee card twice, sweet!)
  • {8:57am} at my my first of two job interviews
  • {11:33am} 1st interview went great, I think they liked me. On to #2
  • {12:41pm} man, i’m tired of sitting on this comfortable couch waiting for my next interview to start
  • {1:10pm} done with the first round, waiting on round 2
  • {1:12pm} I have a voicemail, going to the bathroom to check it out.
  • {1:16pm} It was the gal from the first interview, they offered me the job!!!
  • {1:54pm} Came out of the bathroom and they were waiting on me, oops! Oh well, that interview went well too
  • I told the 1st job to email me details and I’d chew on it for a bit but told them I was close enough to a yes that they could run my background check. Looks like I’m moving on to a new job! Awesome, right? Now on to the next part of the day.

    2:43pm-2:27am

  • {2:43pm} texting a couple friends, calling my parents and letting a few choice people in the office in on the news of my probably new job.
  • {4:36pm} Playing with Laila for awhile
  • {5:59pm} have a few hours to burn, why not test this streak at the Casino. $20 limit.
  • {7:48pm} just left $180 richer!
  • {8:22pm} hitting up the liquor store to procure some celebration
  • {9:06pm} at Krystal’s for a game and drinks night with a bunch of her friends
  • {10:50pm} just asked “how late is too late to text message a 12 year old?” - I was referring to my cousin, but that still sounds pretty creepy huh?
  • {2:27am} that was fun, heading home from the best day I’ve had in awhile.
  • A day that started with cutting my lip shaving ended up being an amazing day. I’ll dedicate a post to the deets on my new job soon. And yes, I just used the word “deets” as in “details”. Kind of lame but funny huh?

In other news I’m opening for Sunny Sweeney down in Kansas City next week. Read about it here.

This showed up on my rss reader from passiveagressivenotes.com this morning.

It reminds me of the time our group got the grade “Good, except Ben” on an evaluation for a section of a project we did in my Journalism class in 9th grade.

To say I had a good weekend would probably be an understatement. I’ll explain…

Friday: This day will actually get it’s own post later this week but it did end with me being $200 richer, meeting some cool new people and Taco Bell.

Saturday: After Laila wouldn’t let me sleep in I spent the morning playing some MLB 2005 on ye ole’ xbox and then got Laila to take a long nap with me. Since I’m heading out of town for a week at the end of the month and leaving Laila with my Parents my mom wanted to do a test run and have Laila spend a night over there. I gladly obliged since I was headed downtown to celebrate some birthdays.

We went to Brit’s Pub and got to sit out on their, not so new but new to us, 3rd level patio. Brit’s is great for many reasons but 2 of the best reasons are scotch eggs and Strongbow by the pitcher.

After everyone else went home I decided to wander around downtown by myself for a bit. I kept it classy, stopping here and there, giving directions to lost girls and watching what seemed to be dozens of drunk bachelorette parties stumble down 1st ave.

The night ended with everyone on the light rail avoiding the kid that obviously had too much to drink (and what looked to be chicken fingers) as he puked at his feet every time the train started and stopped. Back at the mall I helped him off and he assured me he had a ride coming so I wished him luck and headed home.

Sunday: Father Day. I went to my parents house to get my puppy and spend Father’s day with the fam. Burgers, Brats and moving rocks. I think Laila and my dad got a little attached in the 24 hours she was there but like he said “she’s a fun puppy, but I’m glad she’s yours“. We’ll see if she even wants to come home when I come back in town at the end of the month.

Like I said, more about friday coming soon.

If people are driving less and less and there has been no decrease in opportunity to get our hands on oil why are the oil companies saying that the day after day record high prices for gas is based off supply and demand?

Capitalism is unfortunately driven by greed (not that I know of a better system in which to have American businesses run). But since we’re already not run in a true market economy anyways would there be harm in America admitting that we’re a slightly mixed economy and have the government step in on products and services that effect the day to day lives and business of our beloved capitalistic society?

    Though bitching about stuff is easy, coming up with solutions is not. So to try and offer at least a jumping point my thought would be this;

In a week and a half Weezer will release their 6th album which of course I’ll be picking up. Their video for the first single “Pork & Beans” is pretty entertaining. It basically takes a good chunk of YouTube stars and either blends in their video with the band or actually has the person lip synching the song in the video.

Every morning I wake up at 6am, let my dog out, get her breakfast, fix myself something to eat and watch Headline News for about 20 minutes. Most mornings lately you get updated on 5 main areas; Gas prices, the Airline Industry, Politics, Iraq and the Economy. They usually try and find a way to put a new spin on it to keep the content fresh so on Thursday morning they did a piece on the fact that Americans are drinking cheaper beer to deal with an ever rising cost of living.

Their correspondent in New York was commenting and shared a very interesting fact. It seems as though there is a different beer that all the urban hipsters are drinking at their posh bars and clubs in Manhattan…
